With St. Kitts drifting on a record setting cruise season, Prime Minister The Hon. Timothy Harris in conjunction with Minister of Tourism, Honourable Lindsay F.P. Grant today hosted a high-profile meeting with top executives of the Carnival Cruise Line. The Prime Minister AND Minister Grant welcomed President of the Carnival Corporation, Arnold Donald; Sr. Vice President of Global Port and Destination Development, Giora Israel; Vice President of Global Port and Destination Development, Stefano Borzone; Vice President of Port and Destination Development Operations, David Candib; Vice President of Marine, Karl Austin, and Vice President of Global Ports and Caribbean Government Relations, Marie Mckenzie.

The St. Kitts delegation consisting of Cabinet Secretary, Josephine Huggins; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Nicholas Menon and Product Development Manager, Melnecia Marshall, led by the Prime Minister and Minister Grant discussed the construction of the second cruise pier, future itineraries for the destination from Carnival Corporation through the identification of clear growth strategies and product enhancement plans aimed at improving the destination’s overall products and services thus increasing its sustainability.

Minister of Tourism The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant said the meeting was a testament to the relationship that has been forged between Carnival Corporation and the Ministry of Tourism over the years and the visit of the Carnival executives underscored the importance of what is a mutually productive and beneficial partnership.

“Our great relationship with Carnival Corporation has allowed the destination to continually achieve increased cruise passengers over the years. We are grateful that the destination of St. Kitts is able to welcome the Carnival Fascination our only year round ship with whose contribution we were able to receive more than 1 million cruise passengers, the most ever. And, we are working TOGETHER to break that record in the next cruise season.” Minister Grant said.

At the meeting Minister Grant assured the Carnival Cruise Line that the Ministry of Tourism and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority will continue to work on the development of the Port Zante area, standards in the transportation sector, and overall enhancement of the public infrastructure and tourism product.
