Basseterre, St. Kitts- The St. Kitts-Nevis Youth Parliament Association saw the election of a new executive during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held Sunday, September 27th 2015, at the Daly’s residence in Mattingly Heights. The AGM was held under the distinguish patronage of honorary member Mr. G.A. Dwyer Astaphan and newly inducted honorary member Hon. Marcella Liburd.

Mr. Azard Gumbs was elected President of the Association and is set to lead the association for the 2015/2016 year. His executive comprises of Leanne Knight- Vice President, Tasanna Kelly- General Secretary, Nezrene Roberts- Treasurer and Azuree Liburd and Javon Liburd as Public Relations Officers.

Gumbs is the successor of Mr. Dehaan Henry, who served as president of the association for the last two years. Gumbs has been a member of the Association for almost 12 years. In 2008 he served as Public Relations Officer before leaving to pursue legal studies at the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School. The newly elected President expressed profound gratitude to the members of the SKNYPA for bestowing their trust in him and thanked the past president and his executive for their dedication and hard work.

To conclude the evening’s meeting the Association inducted ten (10) vibrant young persons namely Christian Nathaniel, Ackeem Alexander, Tajaroh Stapleton, Kevron Phipps, Trevis Belle, Xuxa Garroden, Keneisha Flemming, Carolynda Welcome, Kyra Seaton and Jonelle Irish.

Also, in attendance at the AGM was SKNYPA’s alumni and parliamentary representative for number three Hon. Konris Maynard. Maynard was the featured speaker and shared his wishes for the Association to continue to do its part in nation building through the representation of the youth voice in socio- cultural, political and economic issues within our Federation.

The St Kitts National Youth Parliament Association began on September 13th 2001.
