Ross University Student Robbed and Raped At Gunpoint

March 15, 2017 in National

The RUSVM Safety & Security Department would like to make our campus community aware of an incident of sexual assault and armed robbery of one of our Ross community members that took place Monday, March 13, 2017 in West Haven, West Farm located a quarter mile west of campus at approximately 10:30 p.m.

The incident was reported to RUSVM Security at 12:02 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Two masked perpetrators entered the residence of the victim and her male friend through an open door. One of the perpetrators was armed with a handgun. After the incident, the perpetrators fled the scene with cash and several valuable items. An emergency SIREN message was sent to our community as quickly as possible following the incident with limited information available at the time.

In addition, the RUSVM Safety & Security Department received an unofficial report today of a sexual assault in Camps Bay View of a non-RUSVM community member yesterday morning by two perpetrators of a similar description.

We are very concerned about both incidents and the well-being of the victims. We remind our community of the sensitive nature of this incident, and we urge everyone to respect the victims’ privacy. We are working with the police on the Ross incident as it is under investigation at this time.

The RUSVM Safety and Security Department have implemented additional patrols in the West Farm area including a combination of mobile, K9, and foot patrols, as well as, static observations in areas where our community members reside. We remind community members to be vigilant in taking important safety and security precautions at all times.

If you experience any security concern, such as a suspicious person, feeling unsafe, etc., please do not hesitate to contact the RUSVM Safety & Security Department.
