Pm Harris says murder rate unacceptable & Promotions on merit going forward

HonTimothyHarrisSwornInCeremony-7Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 05, 2015 (SKNIS): Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) had a familiarization meeting with Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris in his capacity as Minister of National Security, on Wednesday.

During the meeting held at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conference room, Prime Minister Harris highlighted the need for the people to have confidence in the nation’s security agencies.The Prime Minister reminded the officers that within their mission statement, they promised to uphold the law. He reminded them of their commitment “to work to keep the peace in St. Kitts and Nevis to protect, to help and reassure residents and visitors of their safety, and they must do all of this with integrity intact and with impartiality.”

Harris said going forward promotion within the ranks would be on merit and would be transparent.

He assured officers that in his capacity as Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, he along with his government will provide all the assistance that they can, to ensure the integrity of the state. The Ministry of National Security plans to go above and beyond to ensure that residents and visitors to St. Kitts and Nevis are safe.

PM Harris called on the police to work hard to bring down the unacceptable murder rate. He said a new government was in place to deliver a fair share to all.

Prime Minister Harris was supported at the meeting by the Honourable Vincent Byron, Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs. Byron thanked the police ranks for turning out and said his office would work with the police to fight crime.
