Fire forces closure of the Washington Archibald High School

A fire which broke out at the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS), its evacuation and closure is being referred to by the Ministry of Education as an “emergency.”

Without stating that a fire broke out at the school as the reason for the evacuation and closure, the Ministry in a statement “inform all parents, guardians and the general public that the Washington Archibald High School will be closed at 10:30 a.m. today Thursday, 21st September. This emergency closure is to ensure the safety of all students and staff after a recent emergency situation at the school.”

“All students are expected to return to school on Monday, 25th September at the usual time,” the Ministry said.

It “apologised for any inconvenience that this emergency closure may cause.”

The fire at the Washington Archibald High School was first reported by the popular BuckieGotIt via WatsApp.

“Washy flood out also fire started in the staff room,” Buckie reported.

Buckie later circulated a FaceBook posting from a Tasha Willock which stated in part: “The whole of WASHY children has been evacuated to the school’s playing field …fire trucks are here.”
