Former Calypso monarch and leader of the World Famous Ellie Matt and the GI’s brass, Elston King Ellie Nero, was the special guest on Freedom Fm’s popular talkshow Issues on Thursday.
The calypso and musical icon said he was still receiving dialysis treatment in Florida but expressed a keen desire to live in St. Kitts and have the kidney treatments administered at the JNF hospital.
Ellie Matt stated that he wanted to bring his enormous and God given talents and attributes to the development of Culture and Carnival in SKN.
He felt he would be particularly effective in assisting the younger calypsonians with their lyrics and music in creating better calypsos.
When asked about the attempt by the Carnival Committee to have calypsonians submit their lyrics to be vetted by the Committee, the former King said this should never be done, and called on calypsonians to unite in rejecting what he termed as “censorship”. Matt said it was an impediment to the art form.
The former Monarch then took issues with the fact that almost two years after being promised by the Team Unity Government to bring him back to St. Kitts, provide housing and health services, Matt declared nothing had happened and no one from government had made any contact with him. “I have stopped calling for after all I am not a dog” the King declared.
