Opposition Labour Party senator, Hon. Nigel Carty has been critical of St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris for using state resources to go after critics even with his own party.

Sen. Carty said Wednesday that the Team Unity Government in St. Kitts and Nevis is fascist and authoritarian agrees that an overseas caller was spot on when he referred to Dr. Harris as a modern day Adolph Hitler when he hosted a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday.

“We are dealing with a government that is highly corrupt and one that is a fascist government and an authoritarian government,” said Carty, who was critical of the meeting at which the prime minister and other cabinet ministers abuse people in public.

“People who have differences with the government and personalities within the government and it does not matter who those persons are, whether they are persons who have been supportive of the government until recently or those who are still supporters of the government, but are only expressing their views and opinions about the conduct of the prime minister and other persons within the government or those who have never supported the government or the parties are abused at tax payers’ money expense,” Carty charged.

He condemned the abuse of the state-owned radio and television station that carries live broadcasts of the meetings which are later rebroadcast several times and the use of state funds to rent chairs and tables from relatives of the ministers.

In a call for accountability, transprancy and good governance, Sen. Carty condemned the Minister of Public Infrastructure Hon., Ian Patches Liburd who registered a company last year to import and distribute cement and building material.

Carty was critical of the government’s Cabinet statement in support of the minister’s move in the face of widespread criticism from persons in civil society agreeing that such action should be condemned as it raises corrupt and conflict of interest issues.

Carty also condemned reports that a nephew of the prime minister who is paid EC$5,000 monthly as a butler/gardener, is now being given major construction projects to build roads.
