Sean Diddy Combs-1Music mogul and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs was released on bail Monday night, hours after being arrested for allegedly assaulting UCLA assistant football coach Sal Alosi with a kettlebell over an incident involving his son, who is a redshirt junior defensive back for the Bruins.

Combs was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery after a dispute over Justin Combs allegedly escalated in the coach’s office at the Acosta Athletic Training Center shortly after noon PDT. He was booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center by 7:37 p.m. and bail was listed online at $160,000, according to the Los Angeles Times. However, sheriff’s officials told The Times it was set at $50,000 in their system. No explanation was given for the discrepancy.

By 9:50 p.m., he had posted bail and was released.

The incident allegedly began when Alosi sharply criticized Justin Combs and the defensive back’s father went to Alosi’s office, TMZ reported. From TMZ

Our UCLA sources tell us Diddy confronted Strength and Conditioning Coach Sal Alosi while Alosi was on the phone. We’re told Diddy was told to “hang on” but he wasn’t having it and picked up a kettlebell and swung it, narrowly missing Alosi. One source said if Diddy had connected it could have killed Alosi.

TMZ later reported that sources said Alosi was “riding Justin badly” and told Diddy not to come back until the end of the summer. Alosi refused to discuss the matter with the elder Combs and the incident unfolded when Alosi told him to get out of his office and threatened to call security. The update, from Combs’ side, from TMZ

Diddy said, “Fine, I’ll call police” … and Alosi snapped — going after Diddy with his hands.

We’re told Diddy insists he grabbed a kettlebell and held it up in a defensive position … but did not attack with an intent to injure the coach.

There has been no comment yet from Combs or Alosi.

If the coach’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he made headlines in the fall of 2010 when, as the strength and conditioning coach of the New York Jets, he tripped a Miami Dolphins player running down the sideline after a punt. Alosi was suspended and fined by the Jets, then resigned from the team the following year. He was hired by UCLA in 2012.
