PresidentObama-1PHILADELPHIA, United States (AFP) – President Barack Obama on Wednesday praised onetime rival Hillary Clinton for blasting through “glass ceilings” as the first woman presidential nominee from a major US political party, calling her the most qualified person ever to seek the White House.

“I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill (Clinton), nobody — more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America,” Obama said in a primetime speech to the Democratic National Convention.

The convention formally anointed Clinton on Tuesday as the Democratic nominee, who will now go up against her Republican counterpart Donald Trump in November’s election.
