Marcella Liburd-1MP for Constituency #2 The Hon Marcella Liburd is calling on Prime Minister Harris to use the State’s resources to advance the interests of the young people in St. Kitts and Nevis.

On Wednesday’s edition of Freedom Fm Issues, Liburd urged Prime Minister Harris to utilize the extra monies that the Prime minister boasted was being made from improved Inland Revenue collections.

“This government clearly has no plan for the young people in this country. So what you see today is that the opportunities that were once available are no longer there for the young people,” Liburd declared. She further revealed that the termination of the reach program had caused several hundred students to drop out of college.

The MP for #2 said even the education of high school students, had been marginalized by the withdrawal of the Laptop program by the TUG. “Many parents and their students from grade 6 were so excited about getting their laptops, now all their hopes have been dashed to pieces.

I mean other countries; like Dominica has followed us with the laptop program, so they have advanced and we have gone backwards in this technological age.

Also CXC is saying that more of their programs would be online and so our children are being setback,” the MP emphasized. Liburd called on Prime Minister Harris to invest extra monies created by the economy in our children.

Liburd advised the TUG to put back the laptop program which was of immense benefit to lower income families. Liburd again reiterated her call for the PEP program to be put back in place, especially given the recent surge in crime throughout the country.

“The young people were fooled by the TUG who said they would put a livable wage in place of $500 weekly for young people and that PEP would become permanent.

The reality is that many young people have gone home and many more will go home from PEP because TUG is slowly but surely closing down the PEP,” Liburd declared.
