The issue of violence and terrorism raised its ugly head here on Thursday when a caller to Winn Fm’s Voices Programme called for the brutal assassination of Nigerians who he said did not have

the right to vote in the upcoming St Kitts and Nevis general elections.

In early 2014 the High Court was moved by an application by Deputy Leader of the Peoples Action Movement (PAM) Jonel Powell to block Nigerian students from voting in the next general elections. The Constitution of St Christopher and Nevis allows Commonwealth citizens to vote in elections if they have continuous residence for a year. Mr Powell contended that those regulations exclude Commonwealth citizens on student visas.

The St Kitts Nevis Labour Party for Constituency #2 and Minister of Health, Culture and Community Development, Hon. Marcella Liburd spoke to Freedom Fm’s News Desk on the treat against Nigerian students who are constitutionally empowered to vote in St Kitts Nevis Elections. Liburd said the Nigerian students have been targeted and intimidated to prevent them from voting.
