Kenrick Simmonds Drug Case Resumes at Magistrate Court

Kenrick Simmonds, the son of Former Prime Minister Dr Kennedy Simmonds is scheduled to return to the Basseterre Magistrate Court this week, to resume his drugs case. Simmonds of Bird Roc, St. Kitts was 1 of 3 persons charged with drug offences in connection with a drugs bust at Conaree in October 2015.

Also charged with drugs offences are Tenielle ‘Blaze’ Percival of Lime kiln and Greg Williamson of Antigua. Back in 2015 police were tipped off that a small boat with compressed bales of marijuana with a street value of $1 million was landing at Conaree Beach.

When police arrived at the scene, one of the individuals on the boat Obie Baron, was shot and killed by police, Simmonds was charged with importation of cannabis, a conspiracy charge and other drugs charges and was releases on $500,000 bail. The trial resumes this week at the Basseterre Magistrate Court. Simmonds is defended by Dr Henry Browne QC.

In other news a police patrol in Upper Cayon discovered and seized an illegal firearm and 19 rounds of ammunition in Wednesday night at about 10pm. We will have more on this as it comes to hand.

Meanwhile reports reaching Freedom Fm on Thursday indicate that a Chinese Store on Rosemary Lane was robbed. Details are sketchy and Freedom Fm will have an update in a subsequent broadcast.
