Five ambassadors vied for the title of Miss National Carnival Queen last evening at the Sugar Mill, Warner Park.
At the end of the evening, Hon. Shawn Richards crowned Miss National Caribbean Insurance, Katherina Davis as the new 2016-17 Miss National Carnival Queen. Davis amassed 1224.5 points while first placed Miss St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority, Nordia Demming scored 1147.5 points. Second runner-up Shantara Hewlett tallied 1079. Hewlett was sponsored by the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank.
From platforms of Domestic Violence, Breast Cancer, Mental Illness, Health and Wellness for children and Wellness for Women, the young ladies competed in various segments. They graced the stage in Interview, Swim Suit, National Pride, Performing Talent, Evening Gown and Question and Answer Segments.
Katherina who won the award for Miss Photogenic paid homepage to the late Mary Charles in her National pride wear which depicted a bird while Hydeia Tyson depicted the Liamigua Rising. In the talent segment, Joneika Smithen and Nordia Demming performed songs speaking to violence and domestic violence respectively. Shantara played the saxophone for her talent and played a combination of tunes, certainly a different twist.
While patrons waited for the results, former Miss National Carnival Queen 2015-2016 Orngel Erskine took her final walk and rendered her accomplishments as the queen. She also expressed thanks to her sponsors, family, well-wishers, and key personnel.
The ambassadors were serenaded by former Mr Kool winner, Alphonso Henry and thereafter youtube sensation, Toni Bella Blair who hosted the show announced the results at approximately 01:10.
