Douglas Wattley, former chairman of Prime Minister Dr . Timothy Harris’ Peoples Labour Party (PLP) is crying shame on his former leader for being unable to attract one foreign direct investment since taking office in mid-February 2015.
“Almost three full years and the so-called Team Unity cannot show one major development negotiated for St. Kitts – not one foreign direct investment opportunity of note,” posted Wattley on his FaceBook page.
Wattley said the non performance of the Unity government amounts to a scandal.
“There is no innovation, no creativity in that group. What shame and scandal in the Famalaay! We deserve better!,” said Wattley, who along with several founding members and executive officers were ousted from the PLP leadership last March for calling for an investigation in EC$10 million of campaign funds that cannot be accounted for.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) of former prime minister The Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has attracted billions of dollars worth of foreign direct investment during the near 20 years in office.
Hotel, condominium and other projects constructed during that period included Christophe Harbour, Salt Plage, The Pavilion, Christophe Harbour Marina, Windswept Homes, Manor by the Sea, Koi Sales Office, Silver Reef Resort and Residences, St. Kitts Castle, St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino, Ocean Edge, Rendezvous, Kittitian Hill, Imperial Bay Golf & Beach Residences, St. Christopher Club expansion, Park Hyatt St. Kitts, YU Lounge at St. Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, Marriott Residences, the St. Kitts Scenic Railway and the St. Kitts Eco-Park.
Other projects still under construction or stalled are Embassy Suites, Koi Residences, Golden Rock Commercial Park, St. Kitts, Montebello, T-Loft (Radisson) and Helden’s (Ramada).
