Nation Mourns the Passing of a Statesman, Banker, and Devoted Public Servant
Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 8, 2025) — St. Kitts and Nevis is mourning the loss of one of its most respected national figures. His Excellency Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence, former Governor-General of the Federation, passed away on Sunday at the age of 93.
Sir Edmund served as the third Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis and was widely recognized as a visionary in banking and a stalwart of public service. His exceptional career and contributions to national development left an enduring mark on the twin-island Federation.
Born on February 14, 1932, Sir Edmund’s remarkable life journey began as an elementary school teacher. He would go on to become one of the leading figures in regional finance, before being appointed as the Queen’s representative in St. Kitts and Nevis, serving from January 1, 2013, until 2015.
