CommissionerCGWalwyn-1Former Commissioner of Police Mr. C. G. Walwyn, in an exclusive telephone conversation with Freedom Fm says the first quarter crime statistics revealed at a recent press conference by Prime Minister Harris, is a tribute to his unswerving and relentless proactive fight against crime.

Walwyn pointed out that the Unity Government is indicating that crime was down by some 44% even with the increase in gun crimes.

The Former Commissioner of Police said it was clear he was “on the right track” and called on the police high command and government in particular to implement the crime plan he sent to them while he was in office during the first quarter of 2015.

Walwyn said the government should acknowledge that the first quarter of 2015 was his last quarter as Police Commissioner.

“If as they published, the first quarter was so grand, why are they afraid to say my name and my contribution to the overall reduction in crime.” Walwyn who has had a turbulent tenure with Team Unity officials did not have his contract renewed following the general election victory by Team Unity on February 16th, 2015.

Statistics from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) indicates that major crimes are down in the first quarter of 2015 when compared to the same period last year.

There were 634 reported cases in the major crime category in 2013. The figure decreased to 401 in 2014 and was recorded at 180 reported cases from January to April in 205. However, there were increases recorded in the area of murder and shootings. Major crime covers incidences of murder, breaking, larceny, robbery, wounding, firearm and drug and malicious damage/arson.
