An appeal from Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas to the local workforce employed at the new Park Hyatt St. Kitts.
“This is a moment when you will be able to showcase as proud ambassadors what St. Kitts and Nevis has to offer,” said Dr, Douglas during Tuesday’s “Ask the Leader” on Kyss 102.5 FM.
Dr. Douglas, who was Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and signed the agreement with the developers in July 2012 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, congratulated the young persons who take up employment at the first Park Hyatt in the Caribbean when it receives its first guests in November.
He said when the agreement was signed in 2012, he gave a commitment that the local workforce had the capacity to learn very quickly and apply themselves and be successful in one of the world’s best known luxury hotel brand around the world.
Dr. Douglas also commended Buddy Darby and the Christophe Harbour developers and investors for displaying confidence in his St. Kits-Nevis Labour Party administration, in that although the development faced several challenges, pursued the mandate to assist in the transformation of the Southeast peninsula and St. Kitts and Nevis, in signing on to his Labour Government’s commitment to bring worthwhile, longstanding permanent employment for the people, especially the youth of St. Kitts and Nevis who wanted to make hospitality services, part of their career.
“It was part of my government’s commitment to expand the number of high-end resorts and boutique hotels and create an abundance of employment opportunities for Kittitians and Nevisians in several areas and at several levels including management of the hospitality industry, enhanced the Federation’s appeal to stay-over travellers, but more importantly to ensure that stay-over visitors travelling to St. Kitts and Nevis would be able to have the type of overall impact that is being sought,” Dr. Douglas told listeners.
He extended an invitation to nationals living overseas and working in the hotel and hospitality industry, to return home if they wish to do so and make a contribution to the development of their homeland as a sought after destination around the world.
Hotel and condominium projects constructed under the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party administration of former prime minister Douglas via the Citizenship by Investment programme, included Christophe Harbour, Christophe Harbour Marina, Koi Sales Office, Silver Reef Resort and Residences, St. Kitts Castle, St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino, Ocean Edge, Rendezvous, Kittitian Hill and Imperial Bay Golf & Beach Residences.
Other projects still under construction or stalled are Embassy Suites, Koi Residences, Rendezvous, Golden Rock Commercial Park, Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Montebello, T-Loft (Radisson) and Helden’s (Ramada).
