Douglas Warns TUG to develop strategic economic plan to safeguard CBI program

Former Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas is urging the Team Unity Government to develop a strategic economic plan to harness and safeguard the gains made from the CBI program.

Speaking on Kyss Fm’s Ask the Leader Tuesday, Dr Douglas stated that the CBI had been a successful economic model for the Caribbean, but had been compromised by the Tug in opposition.

He made reference to the recent decision by the Canadian Government to withdraw visa free status from Antigua, as had been done to SKN, St Lucia, St Vincent, Grenada, Jamaica and Trinidad before.

The Opposition Leader pointed out that Dr Harris and Team Unity, while in opposition had made it appear that something wrong and illegal was being done to SKN’s CBI program under the Labour Administration why the Canadian Government had chosen to withdraw visa free status to Canada enjoyed by SKN nationals.
