Cuba+US-1HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 8 (acn) Staff members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) met this week with directives of the University of Havana to consider ways for bilateral collaboration.

Havana University Law School and the Center for Research Studies on International Economy would be among the entities to start the exchange in the short term, along with the Center for Marine Research, which has a long record of relations with US institutions.

Havana University Rector, Gustavo Cobreiro, thanked the US delegation for offering the exchange with the best US public academic centers and he added that there´s been an increasing number of Cuban university professors this year who have visited US universities.

AASCU presidents and vice-presidents were interested in architectural and historic values of the nearly three-century- old University of Havana.

This meeting came in the threshold of the First Cuba-US Forum of University Rectors to take place September 9 at the National Hotel, in the Cuban capital.

In recent statements to international media outlets, Havana University students from the Law School have welcomed the most recent initiatives for exchange with US universities.

One of the first exchanges to take place in 2016 will bring together the Columbia University and the Havana University Law School in a bid to open avenues for academic exchange including the opportunity for US students to take part of their courses in Havana.
