PitbullAttackST JOHN’S, Antigua – A four-year-old boy from Cashew Hill is presently nursing serious injuries at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) after he was mauled by a dog late Monday morning.

According to police reports, the young child was attacked by a pitbull around 11:15 am that day. OBSERVER media understands the boy, whose name was not revealed, sustained severe injuries to his neck, face and head.

Allegedly, the animal apparently entered the Cashew Hill resident’s yard, while it was chasing after some chickens.

It was further reported that the boy’s father made several attempts to chase the dog out of his yard, but instead the animal turned and held onto his son’s neck and began to bite.

Reports noted the man resorted to choking the dog in order release his son from the animal’s grasp.

The child was rushed to MSJMC and after doctors determined the injuries were serious and required urgent attention, he was rushed into surgery around 7 o’clock that evening.

The boy was admitted to the children’s ward where he is recovering. His condition has reportedly been described as stable.

Police have announced investigations into the matter are ongoing.
