FLORIDA, United States, Friday January 8, 2016 – A Caribbean Airlines flight attendant who tried to smuggle more than 6.5 pounds of cocaine into the United States, hidden inside compression underwear he wore under his uniform, has been sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison.

Jamaican Rohan Myers’ jail term will be followed by three years of supervised release.

He admitted to his crime and was sentenced on Wednesday, four months after being arrested at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the 40-year-old father of two tearfully apologized in court for his actions.

He told Judge William Dimitrouleas he had been promised $10,000 by a man back in Jamaica if he delivered the illegal drugs and it was his first time being a drug mule.

“I accept responsibility for my actions and I have had four months [of being] incarcerated to really extensively review the seriousness of my actions,” the newspaper said he told the judge. “I . . . guarantee I will not set foot in any court ever again.”

Myers’ attorney, David Oscar Markus, said his client was a “selfless, philanthropic man who gives all of himself to help those who need him” and insisted he had acted completely out of character in trying to smuggle the drugs last September.

Myers was nabbed after arriving in Miami on a Caribbean Airlines flight – on which he worked – from Jamaica.

Customs and Border Protection officers said he became very nervous and sweated profusely when they searched his baggage and questioned him about athletic compression pants in his luggage.

Myers admitted he was smuggling cocaine and showed officers four packages strapped to his thighs and ankles, held in place by long-legged compression underwear.
