Operation Rescue’s Dwyer Astaphan is responding to criticisms from the Team Unity Government that the reason why he is taking the Team Unity Government to task on issues of accountability and transparency is because he [Dwyer] did not get what he wanted from the Government.
Speaking on his weekly “Operating Room” program on WINN FM, Astaphan said the surrogates of Prime Minister Timothy Harris were defaming him because he called for a good governance agenda from the Team Unity Government.
Astaphan recalled the purpose and mission behind forming Operation Rescue. Astaphan indicated that his organization was the impetus that led to the coalition of PAM, CCM and the PLP.
“We said we were gonna form this activist group to preach good governance and unity and to agitate for greater social and political consciousness. We want the people to know, we want them to be educated and informed and sophisticated and proud of who they are and where that came from and live in love and robust, vibrant political and economic social activity civilly in comity with each other. Richards simply agreed, he agreed and other persons were involved, Terry Adams was involved, Washington Archibald, Clecton Phillip, Carlton Dupont, Calvin Beach, Oliver Spencer, Douglas Wattley and others, countless others. As Richards said we bought a public address system he and I, 50/50 on it. All that time, Sam and Tim were in the Government and PAM was not showing a high profile. We were the only two in town. We were carrying to load for social justice in this country for years. A group of men and some women, a lil bit in the background, none of whom had political ambition. We led the fight on the streets at public meetings, marches, in the newspaper, on the internet, here in the “Operating Room” for years”.
Astaphan said that presently it was the Team Unity Government led by Dr Timothy Harris that was now castigating Operation Rescue as if “we are their enemy”
