17 year old gunned down by police on Nevis

Information reaching Freedom Fm. 106.5 fm indicates that 17 years old Philo Wallace, a teenaged cricketer from Nevis was gunned down by police near Enrique’s Bar in Charlestown at around 3:45 am Saturday morning.

The official police blotter states that the Royal St.Christopher and Nevis Police Force Violent Crime Unit (VCU) is currently investigating a fatal shooting by the Police in Nevis.
“This incident occurred at about 3:45 am on Saturday (October, 17, 2015) at Enrique Bar, situated at Cedar Trees, Charlestown.
“A male juvenile, 17 yrs old of Hamilton Village is the victim. He was allegedly involved in an altercation with another person and the Police.”
The police report issued after 10 am says the victim was transported to the Alexandra Hospital in a private motor vehicle and pronounced dead at 4.10 am.

The situation escalated on Nevis early Saturday morning when angry friends of the murdered victim rioted by smashing the glass windows and doors of the Alexander hospital on Nevis. Members of the SKN defense force were called in to restore order.

It is understood that nurses and other workers at the Alexandra hospital were terrified by this violent turn of events. The shooting death of Philo Wallace now takes the homicide count to 25 murders for 2015 so far in SKN…18 in St Kitts and 7 in Nevis.

Philo is the son of former Nevisian pace bowler Raffie Wallace and was probably the best young all round cricketer in Nevis. Philo played for Nevis youth team, Nevis senior team and Leewards youth team and made the most runs in the Leeward Island Youth Tournament this year.
