Taxi Drivers Stage Protest: Request Fair Share

A contingent of St. Kitts Taximen staged a drive protest through the streets of Basseterre then headed down Church Street tooting their horns as they approached the centre of government at Government Headquarters.

A fleet of some 15-20 taxis blew their horns and shouted “fair share for taxi and tour operators”, while others held signs from their taxis or placed them on the dashboard.

Freedom Fm understands the drive through demonstration was led by Sylvester Hodge, who could not be reached for immediate comment, Freedom Fm spoke to taxidriver Austin Edinborough who said the protest was against the Tourism Authority’s dispatch system, and the fact that there was an increasing number of safari operators being allowed to be in the dispatch system.

Freedom Fm called the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Tourism who informed that the Ministry was preparing a response.
