SKNLP Spokesman says injunction violates right to vote and constitutional process

January 30, 2015 in National

AustinEd-1SKNLP spokesman Austin Edinborough told a Good Morning SKN audience on Freedom Fm on Friday, that the recent interim injunction granted by the Court of Appeal barring any action from being taken on new constituency boundaries is a slap in the face for the democratic process, and the right to vote.

Rushing the hearing and judgment within 24 hours via teleconference is very suspicious, claimed the Labour Party activist and talk show host, who further stated that this has occurred ahead of hundreds of other cases awaiting hearing by the same appeal court.

The new boundaries have already been gazetted and writs issued for the holding of elections on those new boundaries. Writs for the election have already been issued based on the new boundaries how could the Appeal court overturn those writs (and revert to the old boundaries) against the constitution and the wishes of the people??

Edinborough questioned the timing of the hearing some 3 days after Nomination Day and stated that the Appeal court meets in St Vincent on the 9th February three days after Nomination etc on the new boundaries based on which the writs have been issued, what options the Appeal Court would have for ruling.

The opposition is fighting a rearguard reaction pulling out all the stops using all their connections. Have no fear – the people’s court will prevail over the appeal court, said Edinborough.
