Registrar of Intellectual Property Rights Ms Jihan Williams Explains Right of Artistes on Youth Beat

August 03, 2017 in National

The Registrar in the office of intellectual property rights Jihan Williams says artistes and musicians do not need to register their music.

Williams described this as a myth saying putting one’s work on social media platform on facebook however exposes that work to being used by others on facebook.

Williams declared that artistes work are powerful and invaluable and people must wake up to their rights and responsibilities “we must encourage a culture of property rights which must not be disrespected”.

For Williams, artistes have rights to their songs from the time they are created and must catalogue and save their work to ensure that you are the owner and creative source of that piece of work.
