Opposition MP Liburd Challenges Deputy Premier Brantley on Double Salary Issue: Denies that Double Salary is Constitutional Requirement or Part of any SKN Law

December 06, 2017 in National

Member of Parliament for Constituency #2 Honorable Marcella Liburd says there is no constitutional requirement or any known SKN law that facilitated the payment of a double salary to Nevis’ Premier the Honorable Vance Amory or Deputy Premier the Honorable Mark Brantley, who will take home over $50,000 as part of their double salary payment in December 2017.

Speaking at the SKNLP monthly press conference on Wednesday, Liburd challenged Brantley to show exactly where in our laws the double salary is entitled to federal legislator.

But on Friday December 1st in an exclusive interview with the Honorable Mark Brantley on the popular Freedom Fm’s Issues Brantley said he welcomed any discussion on constitutional reform with the parties that claimed they opposed the double salary.

Brantley said there had been no change to the constitution since 1983. “If on the other hand it is a question of people getting 2 pay, then it was self serving and hypocritical of them.”

Brantley recalled his salary in historical perspective, placing the NRP politicians as possible recipients of a double salary themselves.
