New deal for Shaggy

Shaggy-1Shaggy has reportedly signed a multi-album deal with Brooklyn Knights, a New York independent record label. The Grammy-winning deejay announced the arrangement on his Instagram page last weekend.

Last year, Brooklyn Knights helped promote the hit single Habibi (I Need Your Love)by Shaggy featuring Mohombi, Faydee and Costi. The song peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was Shaggy’s first major hit in 14 years.

Dee Sonaram, CEO for Brooklyn Knights, is a music industry veteran. Born in the United States Virgin Islands, Sonaram interned at Profile Records shortly after graduating from Syracuse University.

He has done stints at Robbins Entertainment/BMG; Casino Entertainment, Koch Records and Interscope Records.

Brooklyn Knights has distribution through RED Distribution LLC, which is owned by Sony Music Entertainment.

Shaggy has been affiliated with three major labels. He was first signed to Virgin Records which released his debut album Pure Pleasure in 1993; Original Dobermanin 1994, 1995’s Boombastic and 1997’s Midnite Lover.

The multi-platinum Hot Shot (2000) and 2002’s gold-selling Lucky Day were both issued by MCA Records.

Clothes Drop, released in 2005, was distributed by Geffen Records.

Shaggy’s previous album, 2013’s Out of Many, One Music, was released by his Ranch Entertainment.
