National Security Official Responds To the Passport Interception Rumor

October 11, 2019 in National

Opposition MP Konris Maynard says the government needs to provide answers about the allegation that 105 St. Kitts-Nevis passports were recently intercepted on St. Maarten’s airport en route to persons in the Dominican Republic.

The rumor surfaced earlier this week, and according to former Cabinet Minister Dwyer Astaphan, the allegation was that the passports were filled out with names and pictures of Dominicanos who had never been to St. Kitts-Nevis.

MP Maynard said if in fact that was true, it would mean those persons for whom the passports would have been intended would be eligible to vote as citizens, whereas nationals living overseas would not once the proposed residency requirement becomes law.

Meanwhile, Freedom FM has since made with contact with Osmond Petty, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security for a response on the issue, and he has rubbished the story.

“In due course a response will be made. Just let me say right now the whole thing is ridiculous. I have nothing more to say. It’s very irresponsible, but a response will be made.”
