Murder, shooting bring Jouvert to early end in Sando

Jouvert celebrations in San Fernando were shut down by police after a man was stabbed to death and another critically injured in a shooting on Monday.

The stabbing occurred at Cipero Street, as revellers paraded through the streets at around 9a.m.

Police said the man was involved in an altercation with a group of men and they began fighting. He was stabbed in the chest and abdomen.

Police said the man, who was not immediately identified ,was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An hour later, a 21-year-old man was shot at Park Street, San Fernando.

Keon Jack was liming with friends when gunshots were heard.

Jack was hit and collapsed on the roadway. He was also taken to the San Fernando General Hospital in critical condition.

Senior officers said the police have been instructed to bring an end to Jouvert celebration in San Fernando.

Jouvert was scheduled to finish at 11a.m. However, because of the late start bands were allowed to continue its presentations before the judges.
