Interruption in Supply and Update on Water Rationing

September 23, 2015 in Community Pulse

WaterServices-1Water consumers are asked to note that we are still experiencing below average rainfall for this time of the year. The rainfall experienced so far this month although welcomed has not significantly improved the situation. Inflows from our surface water sources improved only marginally and are still below average for this time of year. The same situation pertains for our groundwater sources.

The situation is made worse by a break in the main transmission pipeline line that delivers water from the Wingfield water source in Old Road. This will result in service interruptions from Old Road to Buckleys. Consumers in other West Basseterre areas may also be affected.

Water Department staff is working feverishly to effect repairs and return normal service to the affected areas. We anticipate that this will take until mid afternoon. In the mean time, the Water Services Department continues to ration the supply during the hours of 10:00pm to 5:00am daily to ensure adequate supply during peak demand periods.

The Water Services Department apologises for any inconvenience this interruption in supply may cause. All consumers are therefore encouraged to continue to conserve by using water only for essential purposes. Consumers are asked to contact the Water Services Department at 466-8500 for any other related concerns.
