Former Minister of Education comments on the NIOSH report

August 18, 2015 in National

HonNigelCarty-1Former Education Minister Honorable Nigel Carty on Friday discussed the NIOSH report as a caller to “Issues” saying that the Team Unity Government cannot accept the NIOSH as valid because they deceived the nation on the issues surrounding the BHS campaign.

Carty urged the parents and teachers of the Basseterre High School not to allow the Government to sacrifice the education of the children.

Carty criticized the Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister Honorable Shawn Richards for what he said was an attempt to discuss an area in which he is not qualified.

Carty reiterated that he is aware that some teachers are fighting against any plans to reoccupy the Basseterre High School Campus.

Meanwhile Press secretary for the office of the Prime Minister has revealed that the Government will not reoccupy the Basseterre High School Campus. Speaking on Winn Fm on Saturday Clecton Phillip said the Government prefers to err on the side of caution in light of the fact that a single cause for health-symptoms among staff and students over several years has never been identified.

He said that the Team Unity Administration subscribes to the precautionary principle because the Government is not prepared to take a chance with the health of nationals.

Phillip explained that the government will not place students and teachers back at the campus to see how sick they get and that the Government’s commitment is to build a new school.

Dr. Drew is taking the Minister of Health to task for his recent comments regarding his application for employment at the hospital during a call to Freedom Fm’s “Issues” called on the Health Minister to stop playing politics with lives of the people.
