Milton Whittaker-1Dr Milton Whittaker’s latest research on plants and herbs around us (part 1), was the subject of discussion on Issues SKN on Freedom Fm on Friday.

Many of our plants provide food, medicines, ornaments and are used in construction of houses, fishing and domestic appliances.

That was the word from Dr Whittaker, as he explored with Ms Mavis Matthew of Mansion, the names, uses and benefits of a variety of plants known to nationals.

Dr Whittaker revealed that the plants are arranged in alphabetical order by botanical name, and also included are color photographs, scientific, local and family names, status, habitat, description and comments on uses and research.

Commonly known plants like aloe, soursop, neme, moringa, 5 finger, guava, papaya and more were explored during the one hour appearance. Ms Matthew explained that herbs are beneficial to humans and we should uphold and pass on the tradition of bush medicine.

Dr Whittaker explained how the presence of fighter elements, tanins and antibiotics are important to helping the immune system. He referenced the aloes and mauby and krakanga roots.
