Douglas-1Leader of the Opposition Dr. Denzil Douglas says that the Team Unity Government is planning to reintroduce personal income tax during his rebuttal to the national budget address of Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris; Dr Douglas said that the budget estimates projection for the government to get a 40% increase in revenue from taxes.

Dr Douglas pointed out that the Team Unity Government intends to cover this gap by the reintroduction of personal income tax.

He further claimed that the government had lost revenue from VAT because the Value Added Tax was removed earlier from food, medicine and funeral expenses.

Meanwhile well known Nevisian business man Allistar Yearwood in a call to Issues on Thursday agreed with the call made by the Former Prime Minister and thanked him for pointing out this projected increase in tax revenue of 40%.

“It’s a no tax budget so you wonder where the revenue will come from” said Yearwood.

He further cautioned for people to be cognizant of the nitty gritty in the estimates, and not just the flowery words of the budget address.
