PMDouglas-PressCOnference-1BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Leader of the Opposition in St Kitts and Nevis, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has called on the Timothy Harris-led coalition government to pay a double salary to civil servants to stimulate the economy.

“There is need for an economic stimulus in our country and Labour calls for this at this critical time in our development,” said Dr. Douglas.

He said the nation’s public servants who are hardworking and who are nervous and uncertain of their own survivability in the public service as well as the private sector, the providers and supporters of the engine of growth will benefit from the payment of the double salary.

“I advise very strongly that the government pays a double salary for the celebration of the 33rd Anniversary of Independence so that there can be some economic stimulus and stimulation in the economy at this critical time,” said Douglas.
