Cayon Residents Cry Out Over Water Interruptions

September 02, 2019 in National

Cayon residents continue to complain about constant water outages, some lasting almost 24 hours.

One resident told Freedom FM that the problem began early in August where there are daily outages. He said one never knows when they will have running water as the outages occur at different times and there is uncertainty as to when supply would return. The resident said just on Saturday evening the water supply was interrupted and did not return until Sunday night.

According to the resident, they have been given various explanations for the outages including clogged lines, leaks and that the reservoir is empty.

Dr. Terrence Drew, St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party candidate says he has received numerous complaints from residents in the Cayon area, and is calling on the government to swiftly rectify the problem and put a proper plan in place to address the growing problem of water shortage.

The Water Services Department did issue a notice on Saturday, saying it is aware of the impacts to residents of Cayon from the recent water supply interruptions, informing that they are working to return the supply to normalcy.

“We would like to reassure you, the Water Services Department is still working hard to identify and address the cause of this water supply and distribution problem. During this period we ask that residents consider their water consumption habits when you have supply, and limit all non- essential usage, every effort to conserve will result in longer lasting supply for all residents.”
