GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Tuesday April 14, 2015, CMC – The 197-room Marriott Hotel opens here on Thursday providing employment for an estimated 250 people.

A government statement said that the US$51 million facility will also provide indirect employment for a further 100 people.

It said the hotel “will meet the expectations set out in the hospitality industry here since there are many flagship hotels that have not been delivering the service that is required for the expanding economy.

“The addition of this tourism landmark to the country’s tourism landscape will place Guyana strategically among other world class destinations with first class accommodation,” the statement added.

President Donald Ramotar headed a team of government officials who toured the facility over the weekend and the statement said many local workers including electricians and those in the construction sector also benefitted from the project.
