Parliament-1An emergency sitting of parliament on Friday afternoon saw the approval of a Boundaries Commission report to effect changes in the alignment of constituency boundaries in St Kitts and Nevis before the next general elections. Following the short but at times hostile parliamentary debate which saw the removal of The member for #8 Hon Eugene Hamilton, the house was adjourned and Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L Douglas addressed supporters who gathered in front of government headquarters.

Pm Douglas advised the crowd that he had asked the Governor General to dissolve the House and that the election date will be announced shortly.

Leader of the Peoples Action Movement (PAM) one of the parties that comprised the three party alliance known as Team Inity said the opposition was denied a full debate on the matter. While speaking to Team Unity supporter Hon Shawn K Richards said that now was time for action.

Chairman of the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party and member of the Boundaries Commission Hon Marcella Liburd, explained to Winn Fm, that she was satisfied that the boundaries are now fairly aligned.

Meantime during an emergency sitting of the high court the judge granted an injunction to stop the proclamation of the resolution. Speaking to Winn fm Chris Hamel-Smith, the Senior Counsel representing the opposition, explained that the injunction was granted Friday afternoon even as the government was moving to have the boundaries changed.

However, Government attorney Sylvester Anthony was clear on while speaking on Freedom Fm with Juni Liburd on Friday evening that the injunction filed by the opposition to stop the proclamation of the constituency boundary changes is of non-effect as he is not aware an order has been served to the relevant parties.

He indicated that whatever orders served by the court would be useless if the orders were not served before the proclamation of the boundary changes.
