Marcella Liburd-1Member for Constituency #2 the Hon Marcella Liburd says the Basseterre High School is a full blown scandal. Liburd appeared on Freedom Fm’s ISSUES said the temporary classroom arrangements are not working out and that students education is being disrupted.

Liburd referenced a latter received by parents in which Form 1 students who were housed at Warner Park Cricket Stadium had to find other classroom solutions because of a 4 day regional cricket match. Liburd spoke of several management and administrative deficiencies given the present arrangements where satellite classrooms have been set up in different locations. Liburd added that the Team Unity government should swallow their political pride and re occupy the BHS.

Referring to the Central Basseterre Representative, Marcella Liburd, in which she stated that “the Basseterre High School issue is a full blown scandal,” Minister Richards says that the Opposition is not genuine.

“Those who have now found some false love for the students and teachers of Basseterre High are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites,” he said. “When they had the opportunity to do something they did nothing to help. That is why the people rejected them and placed them where they are.”In refuting the statement Richards said” that the classes of the First Formers “are again disrupted as regional cricket will be played at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium from November 4th to 9th”, the Education Minister said that the students have not missed any of their classes.

“Monday (November 9) is Professional Development Day which is a normal part of the calendar year for all schools. As such classes are not convened as teachers meet to professionally develop themselves,” Minister Richards said.“Friday (November 8) was the sport rally which again is an annual activity for BHS and instead of classes, students meet at a central location to rally as a school. Normal academic classes are not held but the rally is used to reinforce other important attitudes and to develop skills important to the development of students,” he said.
