Maurice Benjamin is the new Principal of the Basseterre High School and is set to take up official duties there on Monday.

Education Minister Shawn Richards told Freedom Fm on Wednesday morning that Benjamin brings a wealth of managerial and classroom experience to the job.

The former principal of the Saddlers Secondary School worked as an assistant in the Ministry of National Security and has deputized as principal at the Cayon High school in the past.

Benjamin replaces the former controversial principal of the BHS, Bishop Ron Collins who was transferred from BHS just one month ago.

The BHS has been mired in political controversy over the past 4 years over ongoing health concerns, which caused the TUG upon assuming office in February 2016 to abandon the property at Victoria Road, although regional and international agencies had advised that the school was safe for human habitation.

Freedom Fm asked Minister Richards if he knew which Ministry Ron Collins had been transferred to but responded that he did not. Richards said the public would be informed at the appropriate time.
