DwyerAstaphan-1Prime Minister Harris’ frequent travel overseas has been criticized by a former government minister/operation rescue founder Dwyer Astaphan.

In nearly two years since assuming power in St. Kitts-Nevis, the opposition has used their platform on Freedom Fm on Wednesday’s to point out that Prime Minister Harris is the most travelled Prime Minister in the World.

The opposition has contended that these frequent visits do not bring in much to sustain economic development and diversity in St. Kitts-Nevis, and the only positive gain is in the continued prosperity for Dr Harris from these travels.

But on Winn Fm Astaphan took Dr Harris to task saying it is a concern for him as it continues the incessant travelling of his predecessors.

Astaphan insisted that there needs to be more accountability and rationalization for these frequent trips overseas by Prime Minister.

“In my view he is travelling a lot, just like his predecessor did. What I would like to know is, what is the objective and what the returns from all of this travelling that is a taking place and it’s not just the Prime Minister, and it’s not just this administration, it seems to be infectious that when you win an election there is a lot of travel. These things need to be rationalized, we have work to do at home. In my view it seems to me that generally speaking, there is too much travel.”

The Operation Rescue official contends that the cost of such overseas travel is something that needs to be accounted for.

“It’s not just ministers because on these trips they carry people with them. Who is paying for all of this?”
