Woman shot, 2 guns found during police operation

PoliceLine-1WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A woman was hospitalised after she was reportedly shot during a police operation in Jerusalem Mountain in Westmoreland early this morning.

The police have reported that an AK-47 assault rifle with six 7.26 rounds and a 12-gauge shotgun with two cartridges were seized during the operation.

Reports are that about 2:15 am, a team of officers was in the district when a confrontation between them and armed men ensued. The woman was seen with gunshot wounds when shooting subsided and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The lawmen subsequently searched the area and found the weapons. The Inspectorate of the Constabulary (IOC) has commenced an investigation into the incident and the matter has also been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
