The Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force has slapped a sitting Government MP with criminal charges.

According to a press release issued by the People’s Action Movement (PAM), The Honourable Lindsay Grant was on Tuesday (March 8) charged as a result of an incident that occurred in early January of this year at the Last Lap Bar.

Public Relations Officer for the Police informed on Tuesday that the charges against Grant were filed on Thursday, March 03.

The Minister has been charged for the offenses of Beating a Police Officer in the Execution of her Duties and Assaulting a Police Officer in the Execution of his Duties.

Those charges were served Tuesday, March 08.

In the release, the party disclosed that Grant’s lawyers had expressed confidence in successfully defending the matter and said that counsel had described the charges as “baseless”.

The PAM also said they “are glad that the charges have been brought – and call for a speedy trial in the hopes that all the facts of the matter are illuminated.

While they support the police, the party said their members stand in solidarity with Grant.
