Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 18, 2015 (SKNIS): The Department of Youth Empowerment has launched its second t-shirt design challenge in preparation for the 32nd annual Youth Summer Camp.

Under the theme “Summer Camp 32: A safe place to grow for me and for you,” children between the ages of eight and sixteen are invited to submit their designs for a chance to win drawing supplies, free summer camp admission and for the winning design to be printed on the Summer Camp 32 T-shirts and banner.

Project Coordinator Suelika Creque said that the t-shirt challenge is one of the ways the department intends to help young people develop their skills in positive ways.

“We’re very much looking forward to seeing the creativity and artistic skills of our youth in St. Kitts and for this year we intend to help further the talents of the winners,” said Creque. “We’re about empowering young persons and finding ways in which we can channel their creativity in positive ways and the t-shirt design is definitely one of those ways.”

The deadline for submissions is April 13 and designs must be hand drawn on 8.5” x 11” paper, and reflect this year’s theme using no more than two colours.

Last year’s winner was 11-year old Raheem Phipps from the Irish Town Primary School who has since been a recipient of the 2014 TDC Warren C Tyson Memorial Scholarship.

Registration forms and rules can be collected at the Department of Youth Empowerment, Education Building, Church Street, Basseterre.
