The conference room at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Headquarters was the venue for Wednesday morning’s meeting between Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris and members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
The meeting got underway shortly after 11 am and featured remarks by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Stafford Liburd; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vaughn Henderson and Attorney General, Hon. Vincent Byron.
Prime Minister Harris addressed the officers in his capacity as National Security Minister. His motivational address was well received.
“Can the country count on your support to deliver the best security that is required for St. Kitts and Nevis? Can’t hear you! Can we count on you? Can we count on you? If we can count on you then you can count on us. We will work together. We will work together because together, we are better,” he said Dr. Harris also spoke of the need for more community policing.
“We need you not just to be the policeman and the police woman out there in the community but we want you to be infused in the communities, providing leadership where there is none,” he said adding that “there’s nothing wrong in the police officer leading the cricket team for Tabernacle, or Mansion or Molineaux as part of that building of network which hitherto, you may be able to fall upon for intelligence, for support, for advice in how you are going to deal with the critical challenges that you are going to confront.”
The National Security Minister also facilitated a brief question and answer segment which gave officers the opportunity to offer their input on his approach to crime and security.
The meeting, which took the form of a ceremony, was chaired by ACP Henderson.
Inspector Carl Caines delivered the invocation and closing prayer while Woman Inspector Dianne Mills led the rendition of the National Anthem.
