Press Secretary to Prime Minister Harris, Clecton Phillip told Winn Fm’s “Inside the News” program on Saturday that Prime Minister Harris was not aware of the retirement of Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence effective 31/5/15.

Prime Minister Harris had announced last week that the Governor General’s retirement was brought forward to May 14, to make way for the appointment of the Acting Governor General QC Tapley Seaton.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas accused Team Unity Government and Dr. Harris of victimization and haste in the firing of Sir Edmund. Dr. Douglas contended that the government should have allowed Sir Edmund’s retirement to take place on 31 May as granted by Her Majesty the Queen.

But Press Secretary Phillip said the relation between Sir Edmund and the Team Unity government were not cordial and he accused the former Prime Minister Douglas of creating confusion and shenanigans.
