denzil-1denzilBASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Leader of the Opposition in St Kitts and Nevis, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L, Douglas says the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force has promised a thorough investigation into the death threat against his life last week.

Dr Douglas, political leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party on Wednesday thanked officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for meeting him and his Legal Counsel last Friday to receive his report on the death threat and for taking a detailed statement last Saturday.

He said he has received the commitment from the police “to thoroughly investigate this death threat and being given the assurance that the threat is being taken seriously and that the police has the capability to investigate full cyber crimes of this nature.”

He said he has received late Monday afternoon a letter from the Chambers of Thomas Astaphan advising that his client Dr. Harris denies making the threat, denies posting the threat on the FaceBook Page of Mable Richards, which carried that same death threat.

“Of course this is an important development for the police and I am sure the denial from Dr Harris will be considered by the police as they continue their investigation of the statement of the death threat that was reported to them on Friday and supported by a very detailed and signed statement issued t the police on Saturday last by me,” Dr Douglas said on Freedom FM “Issues” programme on Wednesday.

The former prime minister thanked scores of persons at home and abroad who called to offer their support, express their concern and prayed with him over the past days following the death threat on his life.

“I also thanked all those who volunteered to provide security for me during this very trying period, but I do not think it is necessary at all, but I mentioned it because this is a trying period when the Government of Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris is prepared to go to the very extreme to snuff out all criticism and opposition to this very wicked regime,” said Dr Douglas who added that he will not stay silent.

“I will continue together with the Labour Party to criticise in a constructive way the deception and the hypocrisy of Dr Harris and his Government as practised against the people of St Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas.
