PM Harris says we will spare no resource in the fight against crime;Douglas says investors losing Confidence in Government

Responding to a question on crime from a caller to the government information radio program “Working for You” on Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris said St. Kitts-Nevis has in the past been dubbed ad the murder capital, but that things are being done to address that.

While making his second appearance since the program’s inception in 2015, Dr Harris acknowledged that there was a spike in gun related crimes which have resulted in the three homicides to date, and armed invasions and robberies.

However, he pointed out that the government would be making leadership changes in the police force, and that the change would be implemented shortly.

Dr Harris also outlined that invaluable international assistance in fighting crime provided by the Branswell Group and the FBI. Pm Harris pointed out that currently there were two coast guard boats doing patrols on a regular basis with a third coast guard vessel to be available, to look at the defense of our porous borders.

Meanwhile Former Prime Minister and Leader of the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party is regretting the continued loss of young lives, homicides, armed home robberies as a crime wave stifles the federation of St. Kitts Nevis.

Dr Douglas told an Issues audience on Freedom Fm on Wednesday that three young men have been killed and several shot, which have put a strain on the country’s resources.

He further pointed out that the medical staff at JNF Hospital are in fear for their lives of armed gang members invading the hospital the exact revenge.

The Leader of the Opposition said that investors are asking why is still happening , as the Team Unity Government while in opposition had pledged that criminality will not happen under a Team Unity Administration.

He reiterated that investors have lost confidence in the government, and that the government is clueless on how to handle the rampant crime.

Dr Douglas said in the past the former labour party government and commissioner of police cg Walwyn were blamed for the crime.
