A young man Troy Hendrickson, who was convicted of unlawful carnal knowledge of a young girl, was in January 2011 sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, appealed both his high court conviction and sentence.

His appeal was heard at the High court this week by Appeal Court Justices Honorable Louise Blenman, Honorable Gertel Thom and Honorable Mario Michel Hendrickson’s attorney John Cato argued that he was appealing the conviction on grounds that the sentence was excessive and at that at the trial fatal errors were made by the trial judge. Cato recommended his client’s sentence be reduced to 5 years.

In the end the appeal judges cut the original sentence in half to 10 years meaning that Hendrickson could be released later this year taking time already served into account.
