As St. Kitts and Nevis celebrates 31years of Independence, the twin-island Federation has progress in several sectors including healthcare, community and social development.

“I can say that I am pleased with the progress that we have made in health, in the empowerment of our women and our efforts at gender equality, at the reduction in poverty and the improvement in the delivery of our social services; the development of our communities as we strive to bring back the community spirit throughout the entire country and the promotion of our cultural industries,” said Minister of Health, the Hon. Marcella Liburd.

She disclosed that during events to mark the significant occasion, an information system will be launched at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, which will greatly improve the delivery of quality healthcare.

“This will involve an identification card which will be given to every person who accesses our healthcare system. We also expect to see a submission to Cabinet to finalise the implementation of our National Health Scheme,” said Ms. Liburd, in a statement, in what was the first Cabinet meeting under the glare of the cameras to mark the 31st Anniversary of Independence which this year is held under the theme: “A Nation on the Move….Celebrating our Progress.”

“As we celebrate 31 years, we believe that health underpins all of the development of our country and that is why we are very pleased that shortly we will see the implementation of the first phase of our National Health Insurance Scheme,” said Ms. Liburd, the Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre).

She used the opportunity to thank “all of my constituents in Central Basseterre for giving me the opportunity to serve our country in this way. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart and I want to wish every citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis, a Happy 31st Independence as we celebrate our Nations progress.”
